Rush Re-Sign Loewen & Small Returns

Edmonton inks rookie sensation along with scorer who missed 2014

The Edmonton Rush have announced the team has signed forward Corey Small and second-year pro Riley Loewen both to three-year agreements pending league approval.

“Corey Small is another foundation player who along with owner Bruce Urban shows long-term commitment to the success of the Rush with the signing of the multi-year agreement,” said Keenan.

The Rush forward, who was selected ninth overall in the 2009 NLL Draft, did not play during the 2014 NLL season due to injury and took the year for a full recovery.

“Corey’s commitment to taking the proper recovery from the injury is the result of the excellent recovery and great success he had during the offseason playing summer ball,” continued Keenan. “We can’t wait to see Corey back on the turf at training camp. His presence will add another dangerous weapon to our offense.”

In four seasons with the Rush, Small has played 62 games for 87 goals, 127 assists for  214 pts.  Small played for the St. Catherine Athletics in the OLA Junior A Lacrosse League from to 2004 to 2008. In 2005, he won the Gaylord Powless Sportsmanship Award. During his 5 years for the Athletics, Small totaled up 127 goals and 278 points in just 102 games. He would also round up 40 goals and 77 points in 30 playoff games.

Loewen, the 11th overall draft selection in the 2013 NLL Entry Draft played 15 games in 2014 and had an immediate impact on the Rush offense with 17 goals and 19 assists for 36 points in his rookie year.

Edmonton Rush training camp will begin on Saturday, Nov. 22 at the Leduc Recreation Centre. The Rush will announce their full training camp schedule, including exhibition games, in the coming weeks.
