The Edmonton Rush and Calgary Roughnecks have announced a trade with the Rush acquiring transition player Matthew Dinsdale from the Roughnecks in exchange for a conditional third-round pick in the 2015 NLL Draft.

Dinsdale, who boasts highly-regarded abilities on offense, was selected seventh overall by Calgary in 2012, the same draft that saw the Rush select Mark Matthews first overall and then choose Curtis Knight with the eighth pick.

A product of the B.C. Junior League, the Coquitlam, B.C. native was one of the most dominant players in his final years of junior, racking up over 200 points in 2011-12, often playing with some the Rush’s current standouts.

“He’s played his entire life with Robert Church and Ben McIntosh so there is instant chemistry there, and he’s played junior with (Riley) Loewen and (Mark) Matthews as well,” said Rush general manager and head coach Derek Keenan. “I’ve liked his game since I saw him playing in Minto Cups as a junior. He gives us more depth and he’s a very versatile player.”

Dinsdale earned seven points in his rookie season of 2013 and came back the following year with his best pro stats to date, notching six goals and 11 assists for 17 points plus 19 loose balls. In just six games with Calgary this season, the six-foot, 185-pounder had collected one goal and five assists for six points.
